These are three palimpsests: reused surfaces with and for manuscripts.
I wrote these words in Esperanto. A language created in an attempt to unify Humanity. I did this using calligraphy, writing in the Humanistic minuscule.
The first layer is a text about my struggle with humanity. The layers above that consist of articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, overlaid with newspaper headlines of events that violate these articles. The final layer is a text in which I express my hope for the future.
It is a visual and calligraphic investigation into the tension between universal rights and historical reality.
