“Everything changes constantly,
yet everything turns into the same patterns.

Everything is made from smaller parts than itself,
yet everything is part of something larger than itself.

Everything falls apart at one point,
yet everything keeps forming new connections.”

…is what I thought once, looking at my work…

2020 - 2024

This series is called lumina, Latin for lights or cavities. It evolved from my take on the Dutch branch of the ZERO movement. First a grid is applied on a panel, painted matte black. The grid (cavities) is then filled -square by square and by hand- under a magnifying glass. I use a dip pen, with gold ink mixtures (lights). Then a process of destruction / creation takes place until the work is done.

2022 - 2024

This series is called excavation and refers to the technique I use. In archaeology it’s the exposure, processing and recording of remains. It evolved from lumina, focusing more on the panel than the grid. Many layers of primer, gesso, paint and varnishes are applied on a panel. The layers are put on and taken away alternately until the work is done.
